Many of you may be experiencing summer fatigue due to the relentless heat. Your appetite might be waning, but that’s when spicy curry-flavored foods start to look especially tempting. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at the newly released Chicken Ramen! This is the perfect bowl for summer.
Chicken Ramen Donburi, Fragrant Spicy Curry with 18 Spices
On Monday, August 12, 2024, Nissin Foods launched the new ‘Chicken Ramen Donburi, Fragrant Spicy Curry with 18 Spices’ (RRP: 236 yen, excluding tax).
This product is part of the ‘Chicken Ramen Yokocho Gourmet Trio,’ a series that reimagines gourmet dishes from the trendy and photogenic ‘Neo Yokocho,’ a space gaining popularity, especially among young people.
This product is characterized by its spicy and deep flavor, created by a blend of 18 aromatic spices, including ginger.
Incidentally, the other two items in the ‘Chicken Ramen Yokocho Gourmet Trio’ are ‘Chicken Ramen Donburi: Fragrant Sichuan Pepper Soup-less Tantanmen’ and ‘Chicken Ramen Big Cup: Sesame Oil-Scented Negi Salt Chicken Flavor.’ Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the Tantanmen—the one I wanted to try the most…

Mildly spicy curry ramen with a rich aroma of spices
Inside the cup, you’ll find a packet of ‘powdered soup’ along with the noodles. The noodles feature an ‘egg pocket’ in the center, just like the regular Chicken Ramen. I was tempted to add an egg topping, but I decided to resist this time!
To prepare: (1) Pour boiling water into the cup and wait for 3 minutes. (2) Add the powdered soup and stir well.
Before adding the powdered soup, it had the familiar ‘Chicken Ramen’ aroma (and I’m sure it tasted the same as usual), but once the powdered soup was added, it instantly transformed into a curry aroma (like when a friend you’ve known forever suddenly changes their personality).
As soon as I tasted it… the rich aroma of spices in the curry flavor was amazing! The scent of ginger, cardamom, cumin, and coriander—all staples in spiced curries—was delightful. The flavor was robust, yet the spiciness was mild and very easy to enjoy.
You can still enjoy the ‘Chicken Ramen’ character, as the soy sauce-based chicken broth flavor comes through amidst the vibrant spice notes.
