Japan’s 7-Eleven’s new “Whipped Melon Pan” is amazing with its melon puree filling.

It’s no exaggeration to say that melon pan is a staple among sweet breads, often found in the bakery sections of convenience stores and supermarkets. While many similar products are available, the “Whipped Melon Pan with Chiba Prefecture Takami Melon” recently introduced by Seven-Eleven is exceptionally delicious, so we’ll introduce it in detail.

Whipped Melon Pan with Chiba Prefecture Takami Melon

On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, Seven-Eleven launched the “Whipped Melon Pan with Chiba Prefecture Takami Melon” (203 yen including tax).

千葉県産貴味メロンのホイップメロンパン

This product is a sweet bun that uses Chiba Prefecture-grown Takami Melon puree in both the melon bread dough and the whipped cream.

On the product package, you can see the Iioka melon logo along with a red “New Release” sticker. Incidentally, the design features the sun and the Iioka lighthouse, which are symbols of Iioka.

Flavorful whipped melon pan

I opened the package and took out the whipped melon pan. It’s not the typical round shape but rather a slightly elongated rectangular shape.

The surface is uneven and sprinkled with what looks like sugar (perhaps granulated sugar?).

When I opened it up, I found a generous amount of whipped cream sandwiched between the bread layers. Both the dough and the cream are a cute pale yellow-green color.

Here is a cross-section.

The cookie dough on the surface is slightly crisp with a crunchy texture from the sugar. The bread is soft and fluffy, and thanks to the whipped cream, there’s no dryness, making it very easy to eat.

And most importantly, the melon flavor is truly delicious! The aroma and refreshing sweetness of the melon, combined with the smooth milkiness of the whipped cream, give it a dessert-like taste.

Using 4% Takami melon from Chiba Prefecture, you can immediately taste the melon flavor, which is fantastic.

Conclusion

I initially thought 203 yen including tax might be a bit expensive, but after tasting it, I was completely satisfied with the rich melon flavor. It’s a perfect choice for breakfast or a snack, so if you live in Chiba or Tokyo, be sure to check it out.
